Mike is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT) and Deputy Head of Department of Medical Education at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). He has led pharmacology and therapeutics as a vertical theme at BSMS since 2013 and has been actively involved in the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate learners since 2004. He is research active in the subject areas of CPT education and clinical hypertension. Nationally, he has helped develop and support the Prescribing Safety Assessment (PSA), sits on the PSA standard setting group (2015 – present) and also played an active role in the 2023 PSA independent review. He has written questions for the PSA, MRCP parts 1 and 2 - CPT and CPT Specialty Certificate Examination. As Associate Medical Director for Medicines Safety and Prescribing at University Hospitals Sussex he has made a significant contribution to the safe, effective and responsible use of medicines in clinical practice at Trust, Integrated Care System and Regional Levels. He runs a specialist service in hypertension and Chairs the British and Irish Hypertension Society Educational Programmes Standing Committee.
